Kirby Patrick Nash was born on August 28, 1947 in Adams, Wisconsin, the son of Lloyd and Helen (McLaughlin) Nash. He was in a hurry to get into the world and was born in a wheelchair going into the hospital and has been hell on wheels the rest of his life. When he was 12, his family moved to Clinton. He was a 1965 graduate of Clinton High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1967. He served a tour in Vietnam in 1970 until discharged in 1971. Using the GI Bill he would later attend and graduate from Clinton Community College. He would later serve in the Iowa National Guard for an additional 12 years. He married Elizabeth Stoltz on January 18, 1969 in Clinton; they recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
Kirby was a supervisor with ADM Construction for 30 years; retiring in 2011.
Kirby was a family man, he would do anything for his kids. He was an active troop leader for Troop #1. Not liking girly stuff, Kirby attended Traci’s dance recitals and choral events, but never complained. You had to know Kirby to understand his sense of humor. After retirement, he became a grandpa to his boys. He not only was Grandpa but a teacher and a learner from them. From decorating sugar cookies after Grandma baked (more fun to eat), to carving pumpkins, and building beds. Teaching the boys about firearms and their safety was important to him.
Kirb and Liz loved getting on the Harley and heading out on a Sunday ride. They also went on many trips around this country. He was always amazed at the things they saw and did. He especially like the Southwest.
Kirby is survived by his wife: Liz of Clinton; a son: Joshua (Paula) Nash of West End, North Carolina, a daughter: Traci (Marc) Smith of Clinton; grandchildren: Olivia Jo Nash, Madison Nash, Elijah Smith, Abraham Smith, and Jacob Nash; a step-grandson: Dakota Pratt; a great-granddaughter: Isla Nash; his sister: Judy (Jim) Burken of Clinton; and a brother: Brady Nash of Camanche. He was preceded by his parents, a son: Jon, and a brother: Gary.
