Kay L. Shear's Obituary
Kay L. Shear, 66, of Thomson, Illinois, passed away, Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Kavanagh House – Des Moines.
Funeral Services will be 10:00am, Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in the Lower York Cemetery – Thomson, Illinois.
Kay Lynn Nelson was born on December 16, 1957 in Clinton, the daughter of Don and Hazel (McDuff) Nelson. She was a 1976 graduate of Clinton High School and a graduate of Clinton Community College. She married Richard Shear on May 4, 2013 in Fulton.
Kay was employed as a customer service representative at Timken/Drives for several years. She also spent several years working for Clinton Community Schools as an associate and a substitute custodian.
Kay was a member of White Oaks Therapeutic Equestrian Center, WHOA, Clinton High School band boosters, a boy scout leader, and coached softball at the Erickson Center.
Kay enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She adored her grandchildren and loved to attend all of their events. She was an avid reader and loved a good book. Kay loved horses and enjoyed spending time working at WHOA and White Oaks. She loved people and always wanted to entertain and take care of others. She was a true light in the world!
Kay is survived by her husband: Richard Shear of Thomson, Illinois, her daughter: RaeAnn (Kyle) Strack of West Des Moines, Iowa, four grandchildren: Bentley, Lyla, Pyper and Maveryck; her husband’s children: Dawn (Gary) Huizenga, Tiffiny (Shear) Dauen, Tanner (Abby) Shear; and her sisters: Kim (Randy) Frahm of Clinton and Connie Boles of Camanche. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Karen, and her brother-in-law: Robert, and her nephew Eddie.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.
