Karen Fischer's Obituary
Karen Ann Fischer, 86, of Shirley, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Karen was born August 10, 1938, in Clinton, IA to Melvin and Edna Naeve. Karen graduated from Miles High School in Miles, IA in 1956. She grew up on the Naeve family farm in Andover and worked at Theisen's, KFC, Ben Franklin, Export Packaging, and Farmall. She volunteered with the Mondale-Ferraro campaign. Later she became a homemaker and Mary Kay consultant. Karen was always hard-working both in the home and out of it, but you would never find her without her hair and makeup done. She was a proud UAW member.
Karen married the love of her life and lifelong copilot Richard K. Fischer of Baldwin, IA on October 14, 1956. Together they raised 3 wonderful children on a farm near Welton, IA. They later moved to Indiana and retired to Arkansas where they enjoyed life on the lake. They traveled the country, maintained a close group of friends in their camping club, and later "Winter Texans". For nearly 20 years they spent the winter in New Braunfels, TX. In 2006 they renewed their vows on an Alaskan cruise.
Karen loved her family, travel, and baking. She often combined all of these things with trips to see family all over the country, where she would arrive with bags full of cookies and Special K bars. She took immense pride in her home inside and out. She would often be found leading the charge to get work done in the yard and flower gardens. She loved playing card games and dancing.
Those left to honor her memory include her children Roxane (Wayne) Piepenbrok, Kenneth (Tami) Fischer, Kim (Gerald) Hutchison; grandchildren Beth (Jason) Siegfried, Jamie (Chris) Ginden, Jeremy Hutchison (Jennifer), Stephanie Fischer, Kylie Fischer (Nick), and Kristian Fischer; great-grandchildren Eva, Jackson, Henry, Ava, Adalynn, and McKenzie; brothers Allan (Roberta) Naeve and Dennis (Pam) Naeve; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents Melvin and Edna Naeve, and her brother Warren Naeve.
Funeral services and burial will be at the Andover Cemetery Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 10:30 am with Snell-Zornig Funeral Home assisting the family.
