Judith (Judy) R. Overland's Obituary
Judith (Judy) R. Overland, age 81 years, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at 12:15 pm in Scottsdale, Arizona. In following Judy’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A small gathering of family to celebrate her life will occur on Friday, May 22, 2020 in her garden at her home in Scottsdale. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a larger gathering will be held at a later date, to be determined.
Judy was born on September 27, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of William and Helen (Leytze) Radcliffe. She had one sister, Carolyn Breck of El Paso, Texas.
Judy graduated from the University of Colorado in 1960 with a degree in elementary education and taught 2nd grade in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and alternative kindergarten in Clinton, Iowa, for 17 years. On December 28, 1961, she married Donald Overland and together they had three children. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Clinton, Iowa.
Judy loved a good bridge game, travel, gardening, sharing recipes, chocolate and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was actively involved in Newcomers Club, Jr. Women’s Club and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for many years. Most of all, she loved being around her children and grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her husband Don, of 59 years, her son, Scott (Jan) Overland of Cedar Rapids, their children Andrea and Abbey: daughter, Diana (Rick) Hanson of Johnston, Iowa, and their children, Emily, Danielle, and Mitchell, and daughter, Melissa, (Sam) Mobley of Scottsdale, Arizona and their children, Sam, Kate and Catherine, her two great grandchildren, Isadora and Vivian, her sister, Carolyn and 3 nephews.
