Joyce Elaine Daehler's Obituary
Joyce Elaine Daehler, 90, of Fulton, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services for Joyce will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Crossview Church, Fulton Illinois. Visitation will be held at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory from 4:00 to 7:00PM Wednesday, July 12, 2023. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons: Charles, Jason and Levi Craft and Kyle, Brice and Alex Turner. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting snellzornig.com.
Joyce Behnke was born August 18, 1932 in Bradford, Illinois the daughter of Edward and Verna (Osborn) Behnke. She was a 1950 graduate of Toulon Township High School, Toulon, Illinois. Joyce married John Craft in 1954 and later married Richard “Rick” Daehler May 22, 1993 in Moline, Illinois.
She lived and worked on the farm for many years; raising corn and hogs and managing a large garden, then canning that produce to provide for her family. During that time, she also worked as Secretary to the Superintendent at the Orion Schools while her children attended there.
She spent many hours volunteering; singing and performing at nursing homes with “The Sunbeams” from her church and as a guide at the Windmill Cultural Center in Fulton. Rick and Joyce enjoyed square dancing, fishing in Canada traveling to Alaska and 10 trips to New Zealand. Joyce also enjoyed reading, playing cards with friends and baking. She is well known for her chocolate chip cookies with black walnuts.
She was employed as the computer network coordinator at McGladrey & Pullen LLP, CPA for more than nine years retiring in 1994. She had also owned and operated Daehler Consulting Firm for many years and taught computer at Blackhawk College in Moline and at Eastern Iowa Community College at the Computer /Business Industrial Center.
Joyce was a member of the Crossview Church, Fulton, Illinois (formerly Second Reform Church), she served on the board and was a Mercy Auxiliary volunteer; was President and served on the board of Harbor Crest Auxiliary and was a volunteer with the Fulton Windmill Committee and Friends of the Fulton Windmill.
Survivors include her husband, Richard “Rick” Daehler of Fulton; children: Mark (Cara) Craft of Viola, IL; Karen (Robin) Turner of The Villages, FL; Pamela (Paul) Allen-Baines of Aukland, New Zealand; Step-children: Kim (Don) Hansen of Fountain Inn, SC; Krista (Steve) Cagley of Clinton, IA and Kurt (Brenda) Daehler of Clinton, IA; together Joyce and Rick had 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and her sister, Louise (Robert) Lasky of Kewanee, IL.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ronald Behnke and sister, Joreen Gingerich.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Crossview Church, Fulton.
