Joseph Arthur Matyasse, of Golden CO, passed away unexpectedly, July 31, 2018 at Sisters of Charity Leavenworth Health, Wheat Ridge CO.
A Funeral Mass will be 10:00am, Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Catholic Church of the Visitation – Camanche. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Joseph Arthur Matyasse was born on June 1, 1957 in La Grange, IL, the son of Raymond John (Sr) and Jean Gertrude (Mlyniec) Matyasse Joe enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country aboard the carrier U.S.S. Enterprise during deployments to the South Pacific, visiting Australia and many other nations in Southeast Asia. Upon discharge from the Navy, Joe joined his family in Camanche, IA. While living in Iowa he collected tolls on the Gateway Bridge, was a temporary worker at ALCOA, and worked construction for Blinkinsop in Camanche and DeWitt. He later moved to the Denver area where he resided for the remainder of his life.
Joe was a carpenter by trade and left his mark on dozens of elaborate custom homes throughout the Denver area and the surrounding Rocky Mountain Foothills. In his free time, Joe loved to fish and had many opportunities to sharpen his skills as a fisherman in Colorado, Montana, and at his favorite refuge, Lake McConaughy in Nebraska. Cardinal Joe, as he was nicknamed in reference to his favorite baseball team, could be found at many Rockies games, enjoying a cold beer while sitting in the Coors Field Rockpile. Joe was also a motorcycle enthusiast having toured endless miles of the Colorado back roads on his Harley Davidson with his closest friends. He also took the train to Pikes Peak with his Gemini Club friends. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, his witty life perspectives, and the many stories he shared with his family and friends. Joe had a heart of gold, was known for his unceasing willingness to lend a hand to those he cared for, and cherished his place as a son, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by all.
Joe is survived by his mother, Jean Matyasse of Camanche; his siblings, Raymond J. (Sally) Matyasse, Jr., of Geneseo, Illinois, Jean Sabel of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Kathy Jordan of Davenport, Mary Matyasse of Fulton, Thomas Matyasse of Camanche, Theresa (James) Bufkin of Seoul, South Korea, Matt (Janell) Matyasse of Camanche, and John Matyasse of DeWitt; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Raymond John Matyasse Sr. (12/27/2014)
