John F. Staszewski's Obituary
John F. Staszewski, 66, of Clinton, passed away peacefully at his home, Friday, March 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
A Funeral Mass will be 10:30am, Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Rickertsen, Brian Staszewski, Dave Cleary, Brian Kroll, Tom Naughton, and Don Hansen. John Francis Staszewski was born on May 2, 1951 the son of Stanislaw and Stanislawa (Mielczarek) Staszewski. He was a 1969 graduate of Clinton High School and received his bachelors and masters degree from the University of Iowa. He married Juli Olsen on June 23, 1973 in Clinton, Iowa.
John was a city planner in both Sioux City and Clinton for 31 years before being elected to the Clinton County Board of Supervisors in 2008. He served as supervisor for 8 years.
John was a member of Prince of Peace Parish serving on its parish council, was the 2002 Commodore of Clinton Riverboat Days and served on the committee for over 20 years, a member of the Clinton Moose Lodge, Eagles Club, and served on the Clinton County Democratic Central Committee. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed spending time on the Mississippi River boating and fishing, and spending time outside tending to his garden and yard. He loved listening to the Grateful Dead and the Beatles, and most importantly spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife: Juli of Clinton; his daughter: Sarah (John) Overstreet of Clinton; his son: Matt (Jennifer) Staszewski of Clinton; five grandchildren: Sam, Lauren, Ella, Edie, and Esme; his sister: Kasu (Larry) Rickertsen of Clinton, his brother: Ed (Mary) Staszewski of Clinton, sister-in-law: Barb Olsen of Clinton, brother-in-law: Mark (Kim) Olsen of Sioux City, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law: David Olsen, and one sister.
