Dear Family Members of John Stansberry,
I had the privilege of meeting your parents when I served as Ruth's Occupational Therapist at Eagle Point Rehab. Center. I got to know both your parents really well. I loved hearing about Clinton's history through their eyes. Speaking of history, I note that your Dad was a WWII veteran and served with distinction in the Pacific theater.
At the time, I had a therapeutic gardening program which your Mom helped to plant. Therapy wasn't one of your Mom's favorite things so the garden was a good motivator for her to get out and participate.
One particular day after 10 mins. of coaxing, Ruth said, "Oh,,,I guess I'll go." She enjoyed herself so much, that she picked flowers for all the tables in the dining room! I think she was in much better spirits after wards.
I thought your Dad had the patience of a saint. You could tell he deeply loved and cared about her.
A couple years later, I ran into your parents at Corner Deli. As I was by myself, they invited me to join them. We had a delightful visit.
I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure Ruth welcomed John with open arms in the pearly gates. Clinton, Iowa is a much better place because of all the contributions your parents made to our hometown.
Sincerely,
Linda Boardsen
Of all the things that I've thought to say about John and the many things that he and Ruth did for us younger brothers and sisters, the most important effect he had on my life was to Save My Life.
In 1993 he encouraged me, at the "young" age of 55, to get a PSA test. This saved my life and has given me 16 years, and counting that I otherwise might not have had.
Thanks, Brother....May you rest in peace.
I am saddened to hear of John's death. He was a kind and loving man who had a warm and subtle sense of humor. He was a man of caring and integrity.
We are so sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a Wonderful and caring Uncle and a very dear member of our family. We would give the world to be able to make the trip to honor his life. We would like to hug all the family and leave them with this reminder. John and Ruth will always be with you.
I Am With You Still
I give you this one thought to keep
I am with you still--do not weep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone--
I am with you still--in each new dawn.
John was a real gentleman. Sharon and I enjoyed immensely the time we had with him and Ruth in Addison, Texas over dinner while they were visiting John, Jr. at UNT in Denton.
We are sorry to hear of John's passing. John and Ruth were our next door neighbors when we lived on Cragmor Dr. We always enjoyed visiting with them. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Dave and Suzanne Rose
We have decided not to make the trip from LI to Clinton for John's service. I am truly sorry about that but it is 1000 miles each way and we are not as energetic as we were in our 60's! We are so glad we were able to visit with John last fall and will always have pleasant memories of how pleased he was by our surprise visit. To my cousins, Patty, John, and Carol and to John's brothers and sisters, Nat and I extend our deepest sympathy. May you know the comforting thought that our God is always with us and is wrapping his arms around you at this time. May the peace of Chrsit be with you. love, Jane and Nat
