John "Casey" Donahue's Obituary
John B. "Casey" Donahue, 91, of Clinton, IA, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012 at his home in Clinton. Services will be held at Prince of Peace on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, June 17, 2012 from 2 to 5 PM. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, in Clinton, IA. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Louis Knabel, Mark Donahue, Kevin Donahue and Eric John Hinrichsen and nephews, William Donahue and William Edwards. John was born July 12, 1920 in DeWitt, Iowa the son of Edward and Genevieve (Green) Donahue. He was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary's High School. John was a WWII, Army Air corps veteran; he was a B-17 turret gunner and flew 30 missions over Europe and North Africa. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. John Donahue married Virginia "Ginny" Kitto on January 19, 1947 in Clinton, Iowa; she passed away April 4, 2005. He was employed as a home builder in Clinton for many years, he owned Casey's Plezall Tavern and had been a toll collector with the Iowa Department of Transportation many years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Clinton Moose Club. Survivors include his daughters, Patricia and her husband Stephen Knabel of State College, PA; Nancy and her husband Rick Struck of Rutherfordton, NC and Maureen and her husband Karl Hinrichsen of Centerville, VA; his son, Dennis and his wife Donna Donahue of Redondo Beach, CA; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and his sister, Dolores Edwards of Clinton, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and two sisters.
