Jo Anne Grimm

Jo Anne Grimm, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away after a brief illness on November 23, 2024, with her family by her side. She was 98.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Russell (Linda) of Cedar Falls; Shirley (Ron) Suntken of Copley, OH; Linda (Rick) Ryan of Welton; Kenny (Teresa) of Goose Lake; Krista (Doug) Bergert of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren, Tate and Ryan Grimm, Carrie Barnes, Adam Suntken, Troy Kruse, Gina Schlicksup, Anna Knepper, Sloane Steffen, and Lina Bergert; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Marx; sister-in-law Phyllis Sutthoff; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Hilbert; parents, Frederick J. and Anna “Dorothy” Sutthoff, and brother, Robert Sutthoff.
Jo Anne was born in Clinton, IA, and was a proud 1944 graduate of Clinton High School where she played the clarinet. After graduation, she was a secretary for a teachers agency. She married Hilbert F. Grimm on January 7, 1945. As a new bride, she left the city for the countryside of rural Goose Lake where she and her husband operated the family farm. They raised their children, giving them incredible memories and experiences to last a lifetime. She befriended the barn cats, never turning away a stray; crafted her skills of sewing for herself and daughters, and in her 70s sewed period dresses for Old World Wisconsin. She passed down her love of baking, cooking, and gardening to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed collecting teddy bears, anything “apple” for her kitchen, and gathering with her neighborhood card club. She was creative and inventive, witty and imaginative, caring and kind; her grandkids loved playing with her because she had the best ideas.
Jo Anne was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Clinton. The visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on November 27 at the church followed by a prayer service at 11:30 a.m. and lunch. Interment at Springdale Cemetery, Clinton, IA.
