Joan Carole Boyd's Obituary
Joan Carole Boyd, 78, of DeWitt, IA and formerly of Clinton, IA, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Fieldstone, DeWitt. Memorial services will be 10:30AM Monday, January 20, 2025 at First United Presbyterian Church, Clinton. Visitation will be held from 9:30AM until the service hour at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting snellzornig.com. Snell-Zornig is assisting the family with arrangements.
Joan was born September 16, 1946 in Waverly, IA, the daughter of John C. and Lois C. (Harken) Boyd. She was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and received her BA in Education in 1968 and her and MA in English in 1975 from the University of Northern Iowa. She taught English at Clinton High school from 1968 to 2004 and was Department Chair for many years.
Joan was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, was an avid Girl Scout supporter, was a Counselor in Training Instructor and Camp Counselor and Camp Director in Joplin, MO and Decorah, IA. She read English Language Advanced Placement Essays for College Boards, the ACTs and SATs. She was an avid outdoors person and enjoyed many canoe trips in the Boundary Waters in Ely, MN. Joan was also an avid world traveler and was a travel escort for tour groups she arranged to the United Kingdom.
Survivors include her sister, Ann (Jerry) Fagle of Crystal Falls, MI; brother James (Robin) Boyd of Port Byron, IL; niece, Sophia Modless of San Carlos, AZ; nephew, Jake (Carissa) Boyd of East Moline, IL; niece, Tess Fagle (Patrick Anderer) of Jersey Shore, PA and niece, Jena (Eric) Dhooge of Normal, IL; great nieces and great-nephews, Kensley Boyd, Carson Boyd, Corbin Boyd all of East Moline, IL and Hallie Dhooge and Callum Dhooge both of Normal, IL.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Boyd.
Memorials may be made to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.
