Janice H. Olson's Obituary
Janice H. Olson, 80, of Camanche, passed away, Friday, August 30, 2019 at her home in Camanche. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration on Janice’s life will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm with a luncheon at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche, Iowa. A private burial will be held at Rosehill Cemetery.
Janice Helen Kuehl was born on December 21,1938 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur and Genevieve (Krogman) Kuehl. She was a 1957 graduate of Goose Lake Consolidated High School. Upon graduation, she attended airline training school in Omaha, Nebraska. She then moved to Washington, DC and worked as a civilian employee with the Naval
Department at the Pentagon. There she met her first husband, Jim Garcia. They wed in 1959 and shortly after, moved back to Clinton. They later divorced. In 1984, she married Gene Olson.
Janice was employed at the Camanche Post Office for 27 years as a clerk and mail carrier, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, traveling to visit them, shopping, dining with her friends, gambling, and following politics. Janice was a collector of bells, dolls, and angels, enjoyed listening to music, and reading.
Janice is survived by her husband: Gene of Camanche; two daughters: Patricia (Ed) Stearns of Camanche, Julie (Rodney) Arends of O’Fallon, Missouri; two sons: Michael (Shawnda) Garcia of Holland, Michigan, Mitchell (Lakeisha) Garcia of Chula Vista, California; step-son: Michael Olson of Sabula, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 13 great step-grandchildren; two brothers: Randy (Pam) Kuehl of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Brent (Sandy) Kuehl of LeClaire, Iowa; two sisters: Karen Sleeper of Camanche, and Sandra Alford of Hailey, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter: Kimberly. Memorials can be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the charity of your choice. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory has assisted the family.
