Janice A. Hurst's Obituary
Janice A. Hurst, 87, of Clinton passed away March 21, 2020 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House – Bettendorf.
Funeral services for Janice will be held privately at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jennifer and Jacob Mathiesen, Shane Thompson, Ryan Thompson, Michelle Kjelland, and Jeff and Jonathan Hurst. A video recording will be available after the services on the Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes youtube channel. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting her obituary at www.snellzornig.com. A public viewing will be Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:00 am where friends are able to come. Due to the COVID-19 regulations the family will not be present for this, and the funeral home will limit the number to 10 people at a time into the facility.
Janice Ann Hardersen was born December 9, 1933 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of William and Else (Gore) Hardersen. She was a 1951 graduate of Clinton High School. She married William Hiltner in December 1954, they later divorced and he passed away in 2009. She married Louis Hurst December 1974; he preceded her in death in May, 2002.
Jan worked for Clinton Corn for many years doing secretarial work in the Engineering Department. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she volunteered assembling bulletins and seating church members for services. Volunteered at the hospital driving the "cube" car and knitting MANY prayer shawls, and Relay for Life. Jan dearly loved her many cats and dogs throughout her life. Most of all, Jan enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Wendy (Jerry) Saddoris of Clinton, Lana (Douglas) Thompson of Mechanicsville, Maryland, Jeffrey Hurst of Clinton and Jonathan Hurst of Carey, Ohio; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Noah Meeker) Mathiesen, Jacob (Christine Givens) Mathiesen, Michelle (James) Kjelland, Shane (Jen) Thompson and Ryan (Jenni) Thompson; and 11 great grandchildren: Grayson, Mady, Ashland, Jacob, Molly, Emily, Micah, Vivian, Emmett, Demi and Jameson.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Memorials may be made to the Clinton Humane Society, Camp Courageous or to Zion Lutheran.
The family is planning a celebration of life for Jan at a later date.
