Jane K. Whipple's Obituary
Jane K. Whipple was called to Heaven on November 7, 2023. Per her wishes, there will be no visitation and a private service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery next to her husband. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting her obituary at www.snellzornig.com.
Born November 29, 1928 to Walter and Bernice Falb of Elgin, IA, she was a graduate of UNI with a degree in home economics. There, she married the love of her life, Jack Whipple. They settled in Clinton in 1958, with Jack teaching at Clinton Community College. Jane taught at Gateway Jr. High School and later at Washington Jr. High School from 1962 to 1986, interacting with thousands of students. Fun stories of conquest and calamity (such as a Baked Alaska sliding, burning instantly and setting off the school’s fire alarm…) were joys of her legacy with Clinton’s youth.
Jane was active in the United Methodist Church and community activities for over 60 years. After Jack’s passing in 1989, she served the CCC Paul B Sharar Foundation and Delta Kappa Gamma, Eastern Star, Samaritan Auxiliary, Daughter of the Nile and other beloved organizations.
Her family celebrates her life - daughter Lynne and husband William Hayden of Gainesville, GA; daughter-in-law, Christine Whipple; grandchildren Kimberly Tjalas of Davenport; Matthew Whipple and his son, Mason; and, Jessica Whipple of Clinton; her brother and sister-in-law, Kent and Maxine Falb; and nine nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, two sons: infant Richard and Rev. Mark Whipple and sister Marilyn Falb Larsen.
Please honor her spirit and value for education. Memorials: Eastern Iowa Community College’s Paul B Sharar Foundation, Whipple Scholarship.
