James C. Thompson, 80, of Clinton, passed away, Monday, November 13, 2023 at MercyOne – Clinton, surrounded by family.
Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Monday, November 20, 2023 at First Congregational Church – Clinton. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Fullick, Mike Fullick, Tim Fullick, Kyle Fullick, Gary Kramer, & Grant Melvin. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Dan Deets. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to the service time Monday at the church. Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family.
James Craven Thompson was born on May 17, 1943 in Clarkton, North Carolina, the son of Joseph Alton and Jetta (Edwards) Thompson. He was the youngest of 7 children. Jim and his first wife had 3 children together. He later married Sandra Lundgren Fullick on September 14, 1985. He quickly became loved and respected by her 3 adult sons.
Jim worked several different jobs until moving to Clinton, IA, in 1979 where he was employed with Daniels Construction. He then worked as a millwright-machinist for ADM, retiring after 24 years of service. Jim was a member of Emulation Masonic Lodge & the First Congregational Church where he served on the board of trustees. He was a member of the Antique II Car Club. Jim enjoyed camping, elk hunting in Colorado, and listening to country music. Jim was an avid Washington Redskins fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR.. He bowled in leagues for several years and golfed at the Fulton Country Club which included many colorful expressions. Jim enjoyed meeting and talking to people. He was perceptive to their interests and easily engaged people in conversation. He brought many new perspectives to those who knew him. Jim was always willing to lend a hand or help anyone he encountered. Jim was a friend to all and truly never met a stranger.
Jim is survived by his wife: Sandra of Clinton; his children: JC (Lisa Leslie) Thompson of Clinton, Leslie (Kirk) Morris of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Diane (Marc) Lozier of Wilmington, North Carolina; his step-children: Eric (Cathy) Fullick of Clinton, Mike (Carmen) Fullick of Trinity, Florida, and Tim (Kathy) Fullick of Lakeland, Tennessee; 8 grandchildren: Krista, Nicholas, Skylar, Josh, Tomi, Dan, Molly, and Kyle; two great-grandchildren: Olivia and Aoife; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: William, Wade, Joseph, Jr., Vernon Lee, and Shadwell; and a sister: Betty.
Memorials can be made to the Shriners Hospitals or the American Lung Association.
