James B. Platter's Obituary
James B. Platter, 91, of Clinton, passed away, Tuesday, September 23, 2014
at the Alverno.
Memorial Services will be 10:30am Monday, September 29, 2014 at the Clinton
Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Rock
Island Arsenal National Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to
6:00pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting

James Barton Platter was born on March 30, 1923 in Des Moines Township,
Boone County, Iowa, the son of James Ward and Geraldine (Main) Platter. He
was raised by Ward and Vinnie Platter. He married JoAnn Anderson on
December 31, 1947 in Boone, Iowa; she died May 15, 2008.
Jim was a 1941 graduate of Boone High School. He served in the United
States Navy during World War II as an Airman from 1943-1946
Jim worked as a switchman on the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and then as
an electrician with the IBEW, relocating his family to Clinton in 1966. He
was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Jim is survived by sons: James Robert (Darlene) Platter of Lakeland,
Florida and Curtis Alan (Karen) Platter of Clinton, Iowa; his daughter:
Melinda (Grover) Cave of Princeton, Kentucky, 11 grandchildren: Dawn
(William) Clayburn of Cleveland, Texas, Heidi (Daron Gill) Shoultz of
Camanche, Iowa, Billie (Eric) Wagenknecht of Esmond, Illinois, Keri (Troy)
Shelton of Rock Island, Illinois, Joshua (Angie Storjohann) Platter of
Clinton, Iowa, Michelle (Mark) Sowell of Alturas, Florida, James (April)
Platter of Lakeland, Florida, Hannah Cave of Springfield, Illinois, DeAnna
Baugh-Cave Rockford, Illinois, Jackie Cave of DeKalb, Illinois, and Waiiven
Cave, of Princeton, Kentucky, 13
great-grandchildren: Heather Swinney of Thornton, Indiana, Maximus Gill of
Camanche, Iowa, Patricia and Christopher Wagenknecht, Karly & Blake Shelton
of Rock Island, Illnois, Steel Storjohann of Camanche, Iowa Cadence Sowell,
Kyle, James, & Aubrey Platter, Journey Cave, and Victoria & Zayden Cave, one
great-great granddaughter:
Skylar Richardson; and one sister-in-law: Beverly Jones of Harlingen, Texas.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, and one
brother: Garland.
