James C. Hass' Obituary
James C. Hass, 93, of Clinton passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Prairie Hill Assisted Living in Clinton.
Memorial Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, Monday October 24, 2022 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory followed by a Memorial Service and Rose Croix at 6:00 pm. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.
James Carroll Hass was born January 18, 1929 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Berthold and Elsie (Nissen) Hass. He was a 1947 graduate of Clinton High School. He served in the United State Navy from 1948-1951. Jim married Carol Morris on October 9, 1955 in Clinton, Iowa; she preceded him in death on May 21, 2008.
Jim’s family owned and operated the Hass Grocery store for two generations. He worked there with his parents as a boy and when he returned home from the Navy he continued his father’s legacy and took over the store until he sold it in 1985. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the KAABA Shrine, High 12 and the Oriental Band where he played the cymbals. He loved his Harley Davidsons and had many through the years. Spending time on the river, working his docks, boating, fishing, or just watching the sunset was a lifelong passion.
James is survived by his three children: Christi (Steve) Pallo of Maroa, Illinois, Julie (Ben) Hensley of Florence, Arizona and Jay (Janet) Hass of Grapevine, Texas; five grandchildren: Nick (Charity) Pallo, Chris (Allison) Pallo, Andy (Anna) Hensley, Jim (Ariel) Hass and Keri (Chantz) Rose; three great grandchildren: Noah, Adley and Leighton.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and infant son James B. Hass.
In lieu memorial may be made to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital.
