So sorry for your loss of Jim from Keith and Phyliss Jensen of Vliage Coop
I fitst met Jim in 1984. I had just accepted the position of starting and running the new Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA) Midwest Office, and Jim was chair of the committee assigned to be a liaison. In a sense, that made him my boss. We became great friends. Jim had the measure of humility found in great leaders. His other leadership trait I so admired was his willingness to consider an issue, even if he was initially unsure. He had an open mind, another trait of great leaders. On our first meeting, he told me he thought the new office should be in the Quad Cities, not Minneapolis as the League exec board had decided. Years later, he told me we had made the right decision. Again and again, He would study an issue before coming to a decision, revise his thinking based on new or more information, or stick with a good decision in the face on controversy.
In 2007, I stepped down as IWLA executive director. I heard I was being considered for the League's highest award, the 54 Founders, along with Jim. I called the chair and told him their was no way I wanted to step in front of Jim to get the award, please give it to Jim. I heard that he did the same thing for me. Jim got the award in 2007. I got it in 2008.
I have not talked with Jim in 10 years, but I think about him all the time as a friend, mentor and one of the great leadership examples of my life. My job put me in the room with U.S. Presidents and other top leaders in business and government. Not one of them had better leadership qualities than Jim Haring. I hope his family knows was an extraordinary man this was.

I have fond memories of Jim overseeing the school district building and grounds especially at Lincoln and Lyons. . He was always seeing that things were the best they could be for students and staff. Even his chuckle as he told you something was not possible, showed his caring. My sympathy to his nice family. Richard Grugin .
We know that Jim will forever be in your hearts. Thoughts of peace from your family in Utah - Allan and Amy Anderson
