Jim and Marge were neighbors of ours in Florida and good friends. Jimmy, as we called him, would always do anything to help and he always did it with a smile and a teasing sense of humor. We shared many good times and many laughs with him during events in our Florida Kings Isle community. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with Marge and the entire Adams family.
I have known Jim ever since he was about 3 years old. We lived on neighboring farms west of Oelwein, IA and attended the same 1 room country school, Sunnyside, Jefferson Twnshp. #3.
Jim's Dad, Les took my Mom to the Oelwein Mercy Hospital on his tractor during a blizzard before my brother, Wayne was born 4-17-49.
I remember good times my brothers and I had with the Adams kids as we were growing up in the area.
During the 1950's Jim and his older brother, Bill had horses that they sold when they moved after both their parents, Les & Ruth passed away. Several years later, my brother, Jerry and I bought 2 of the horses from a man near Maynard, IA, not knowing they were the former Adams horses. After we got them home we thought they had markings similar to them. This was confirmed after we first mounted up, bareback w/makeshift baleing twine halters & no bits. They took off running out our driveway, made a sharp right turn, where Jerry fell off, then contnued at a full gallop about 3/4 mi. on the gravel road where they made a sharp left turn into the former Adams farm driveway! That's where I fell off. They ran on up to their corn crib where they stopped. I walked up there, caught the mare, then led her all the way back home with the gelding following. After that, we knew they were the former Adams horses! Years later, Bill and Jim got a kick out of this.
We sort of drifted apart as the years went by, but did get together a few times, since. I went to Iowa State University, worked as a station agent for the Chicago Great Western Rwy, was drafted into the Army then moved to Fort Wayne, IN area were I have retired from the NS Rwy as a conductor. Jim and my brother, Jerry, were both conduictors on the CGW, then CNW and UP.
All the nice things people have said about Jim are definitely true, as I knew him. We will all surely miss him. I pray that God will grant all the family and friend Peace and Comfort through this time of sorrow and help everyone remember the good times we all enjoyed with Jim!
My Dear friend Jimmy, If one knew Jimmy they would be FOREVER FRIENDS. Jimmy was a special man. My memories of Jimmy will forever be engrave in my heart. Jimmy was witty & funny. We had so many good laughs that will always stay with me. Jimmy was a very good sportsman, he played Ping Pong, Bowling, excellent Pool shooter & was always there to give you a helping hand. Jimmy as a big part of "People Serious About LITTER". Every Sunday we would be on the road early morning picking up litter & he would definitely find a Treasure even it was a piece of scrape metal or a PVC pipe which he could put to use. He was very handy with what he did. He never knew the word NO. Jimmy will never be forgotten. I will miss You, My Friend!

Another one of Jim's lines was "Don't throw anything away till I look at it first."
