J. Robert Hjelmaas, 78, of Clinton, Iowa, died Monday, November 21, 2011 at home. Celebration of Life services will be held 11 AM Saturday, November 26, 2011 at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Friday, November 25, 2011 from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory assisted the family with arrangements Robert was born April 22, 1933 in Valley City, ND, the son of the Rev. Gerhard and Edith (Hoilund) Hjelmaas. Robert married Judith Foley on August 21, 1955 in Crystal Lake, Iowa at the Crystal Lake Methodist Church where his father was the pastor. He was a United States Army veteran and was a 1956 graduate of the University of Iowa. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Robert was employed as an accountant at Clinton Corn processing and later at the Rock Island Arsenal in the Comptroller's Office, until retiring in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Judy of Clinton; son, Reid (Judy) Hjelmaas of Overland Park, KS; daughter, Angela (Aaron) Griffith of Mt. Zion, IL; grandchildren, Caitlin, Kristen, Drake, Lauren, Erik and Sarah; brother, Roy (Catherine) Hjelmaas of Eugene, OR and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or HomePlace.
