Harry Kahler's Obituary
Harry Kahler, 97, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Mercy Living Center-North, Clinton. Snell-Zornig assisted with arrangements and online condolences may be expressed by visiting snellzornig.com.
Harry was born December, 19, 1920 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Harry and Winifred Kahler. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1940 with many medals and ribbons in track and field. Harry married Jean Elizabeth Hunt in 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri; she passed away in 1999.
Harry was a WWII U. S. Army veteran; he enlisted in the Army on July 1, 1942 and served until February 17, 1946.
Harry and Jean ran the Coryell Diner and Gas Station in the late 40’s and late 50’s; it was on the corner of 6th Avenue North and 2nd Street. Harry became a teamster in the early 50’s and worked for Bob and George Pillers who owned Western Auto Transport, INC. Harry hauled autos out of Detroit for many years. In 1959 Harry started Lateke Marina for dockage and boat sales and service, it soon turned into Lateke Sports Center, which is still open today. He owned several other businesses including, Better Family Furniture and Lazonos Mexican Restaurant.
Harry always enjoyed the river and spending time with his family. Harry will be missed by his friends and family. He is survived by his three sons, Larry, Terry and Kerry his grandchildren and his special friend, Joanne Niebuhr.
