Gladys I. Krongard's Obituary
Gladys Irene (Smith) Krongard passed away on March 24th, 2025 at Park Vista of Camanche.
In accordance with her wishes, a private family burial was held Friday, March 28th, 2025 at the Clinton Lawn Cemetery alongside her beloved husband, Gerald. The Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory assisted the family with arrangements.
Gladys was born on November 5th, 1925 to Ralph and Lottie (Krukow) Smith of Camanche, Iowa. She was a graduate of Camanche and Our Lady of Angels Academy. Gladys had a fulfilling career as a dental assistant at Shick General Hospital, the VA, and later supervised the Clinton Job Corps dental program.
On June 25, 1950 she married Gerald Krongard at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. They shared many years together before his untimely passing on May 7th, 1993. Gladys was an active member of St. Stephens (New Hope) Church and lived a life of faith and service.
She had a love for traveling, especially vacations in Colorado and Wyoming. She fondly recalled a memorable trip when her and Gerald took a trip to the bottom of the Grand Canyon via mules. She also had a great love of music and enjoyed singing. She enjoyed singing songs at Garner Hall in Camanche.
Gladys is survived by her nieces and nephews who will always hold her dear in their hearts. She was a very generous person and helped paved the way for many generations.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Camanche Fire Department.
