Gilbert Paysen's Obituary
Gilbert L. Paysen, 96, of Clinton died Friday, March 5, 2010 at Bickford Cottage. Funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 4-7:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home where a 7:00pm Rose Croix service will be conducted. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bryon Burgess, James Whitney, Gary Paysen, Terry Otto, Rodney Paysen, and Jim Lee. Gilbert L. Paysen was born on March 7, 1913 in Goose Lake, IA, the son of Peter M. and Eureka (Marccusin) Paysen. He attended rural Clinton County schools. He later attended tractor school in Kansas City, KS in 1936. He married Mary C. Sturtz on July 23, 1960 in Camanche; she died on February 22, 2010. He owned and operated Paysen’s Garage for many years; retiring in 1973. He was a 50 year member of the Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies and the Western Star Lodge #100 A.F. & A.M., and was also a member of the KAABA Shrine. He was an antique enthusiast, a John Deere collector, and regularly attended the Old Thrasher’s reunions in Mount Pleasant, IA. He is survived by two nephews: Leonard (Bernice) Paysen of Goose Lake, and Delbert Paysen of DeWitt; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 5 sisters and 4 brothers. Memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
