Gertrude Lewis' Obituary
Gertrude Eleanor Lewis passed away on November 29, 2010. Gertrude was born on November 13, 1920 in Clinton, Iowa and was raised in Iowa, along with her sister and four brothers by their parents John and Emma Manning. In 1941 Gertrude eloped with Jackson Lewis and they celebrated sixty years of marriage. Her family and her Catholic faith richly filled her life. Gertrude lived most of her life in Clinton with a few stops in Florida, New Mexico and Berlin, Germany after World War II. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Gertrude was a true artist and expressed her creativity in china painting, oil painting, sewing and quilting. She loved playing cards, especially the game of 500. As a homemaker and seamstress at Lou Marge’s bridal store, she was esteemed by family and friends alike. Gertrude will most be remembered for her beautiful blue eyes, sweet smile and gentle nature. She is survived by her children Jacklyn Jennings (Tom), Mesa, AZ, Linda Langrock (Dave),Davenport, IA, Gary Lewis (Tracy), Pocatello, ID and Tom Lewis, Clinton, IA.; grandchildren Rob Stevenson (Cecilia), Davenport, IA, Cory Stevenson (Kim), Long Grove, IA, Lacey Langrock, Moline, IL; Julie Jennings, San Jose, CA, Mark Jennings (Ramona), Scottsdale, AZ, Brian Jennings (Nicole), Scottsdale, AZ, and eight great-grandchildren; brother Don Manning (Mary Jo), Clinton, IA, and many nieces and nephews. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson; her sister, Vernona Simon, and her brothers Howard Manning, Earl Manning, and Raymond Manning. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, December 6 at Snell-Zornig Funeral Home, 302 3rd Avenue South, Clinton. Visitation will be Monday from noon until the service hour at the funeral home. Internment will be at St. Irenaeus Cemetery.
