Gerald A. Smith, 89, of Thomson, Illinois, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025 at MercyOne in Clinton.
Funeral Services are 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the service time at the funeral home. Gerald Allen Smith was born October 3, 1936, the son of Paul and Neoma (Blair) Smith. He was a graduate of York Community High School. He married Jeanette A. Schroeder on September 8, 1978 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois; she preceded him in death on September 12, 2011.
Gerry worked for International Paper for more than 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He loved time spent with his family and friends and especially loved traveling with his wife, they enjoyed spending their vacation time at Kentucky Lake.
He is survived by three children: Cindy (Jim) Assenmacher of Clinton, Kristi Gustafson of Moline, Illinois and Eric (Tiffani) Smith of Thomson; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister: Janice (Andy) Houzenga of Thomson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Ronald Smith, daughter Jodi French and grandson Kye Smith.
