Gerald D. Johnston's Obituary
Gerald Dean Johnston, 89, of Clinton, Iowa, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at his home in Clinton. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Clinton. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the service hour at Prince of Peace. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Melvin, Richard Powlistha, Gregg Petersen, Kyle Johnston, Mary Riddle and Branden Riddle.
Gerald was born February 20, 1923 in Lineville, Iowa, the son of Golden Ray and Effie (Wilson) Johnston. He married Dolores Collins on July 10, 1946 in Clinton; she preceded him in death on April 26, 2009. He was a WWII United States Navy Veteran.
Gerald was employed at Clinton Corn Processing for 33 years, retiring in 1979.
Survivors include his sons, Michael Johnston of Columbia, TN, Allen (Veronica) Johnston of Erie, IL and Roger Johnston of Belvidere, IL; daughter, Jerrie Ann (Richard Powlistha) Johnston of Clinton; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Lanning of Clinton, IA; brother, Max Johnston of Davenport, IA and his caregiver, Mary Riddle of Clinton, IA.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Melvin, two granddaughters, three brothers and three sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Clinton Humane Society or Mercy Hospice.
