I remember Gene from my days of working at DuPont in Clinton. Gene always did his best when I needed a electrician to work on any machine I would be running. He was always prompt, thorough, and friendly. I think back to those days and the one thing I miss most are the people I used to work with. I just retired 2 1/2 years ago after transferring to Parkersburg, WV, and completing 29 years with DuPont. I have made friends here also, but the friends from Iowa will also hold a special place in my heart.
Gene you captured my heart from the beginning. From the time I first got know Gene and Thelma almost ten years ago already. I found him to be a strong willed person. Gene was never afraid to speak his mind and to let you know how things should be done and when. But he had a softer side also...He loved to play ball with our dogs and always made a point of coming over to see them whether they were on the back deck of just in the yard. It was so cute to see him get all excited about kicking that ball and watching Mikie run ! He also just loved to sit and pet Brach, and hold Hope. He was never to busy to show how much he loved our dogs.He loved Miss Maggie too but soon relieved she was too big to hold anymore and would just stay in his chair and rubbed her belly while she lay sleeping beneath him. I will never forget the way he made me laugh and the stories he shared about camping,dancing, and being a Bix runner. The smile that would come across his face was worth a million dollars.He was a proud man and a wonderful friend. He also made a fine husband to Thelma. He spoke about his children and grand children often. He was so proud of them all. I will miss Gene and I will see him in the back yard still if even just in my mind.Gene...you will be sadly missed by so many.I am happy though that you are free of any pain and can be up in a place where you may always be able to dance and a run the Bix ! I am betting you will always win too. We will always love you and miss you my friend, always.
