Gary A. Iverson's Obituary
Gary A. Iverson, 83, of Clinton passed away Wednesday, September, 14, 2022 at MercyOne in Clinton.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Visitation will be 10:00 am until the service time at the funeral home. Gary Alan Iverson was born July 15, 1939 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Donald and Margie (Christenson) Iverson. He was a 1957 graduate of Bellevue High School. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Dubuque in August of 1965. He married Merry Sweet on May 28, 1966 in Durand, Illinois. Gary worked as a Bank Teller in Dubuque during his earlier years; after graduation he worked as an Insurance Examiner for the State of Iowa. Once Gary and his wife moved to Clinton, he worked as a Route Salesman for Trausch Baking Company and he owned and operated Maid Rite from 1982 to 1989. After selling the restaurant he worked for Community Care as a caretaker for adults with special needs. Gary was a hardworking man and worked many jobs while living in the community including time delivering papers for the Clinton Herald, bagging groceries at Hyvee, being a lifeguard at the YWCA and working for the Clinton Community School District as a para educator and driving the special needs van.
Gary dedicated much of his life to Music. He sang at many weddings, funerals and church services. He was a member of the RiverChor, played in River City Municipal Band, assisted in founding the Riverside Brass, and he directed the State Employee Choir and several church choirs in the area. He was a one-season director for the Clintones and sang the National Anthem for two years at the Lumberkings Stadium. Gary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton and the Clinton Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Merry Iverson of Clinton; three children: Ed (Athena) Iverson of Austin, Texas, Jared (Dana) Iverson of Brentwood, Tennessee and Janeva (Mike) Van Haaften of Pella, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Garrett, Blythe, Braden, Hale, Kian, Malachi, Paige and Ezekiel; sister-in-law: Faye Iverson of Phoenix, Arizona and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Dean Iverson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Salvation Army, the Clinton YWCA or the American Heart Association.
