Fern J. Tietjens Dosland's Obituary
Fern J. Tietjens Dosland, 96, of Clinton, died Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Mercy Living Center North, Clinton. Services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, Elvira, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until the service hour Wednesday at the Church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Burial will take place at the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Neil and Troy Tietjens, Keith and Darin Sander, Matt Wiese and Lee Bowstead.
Fern was born October 5, 1919 in Miles, Iowa, the daughter of John and Helen (Matthiesen) Mommsen. She was a 1937 Miles High School graduate. Fern married Henry Tietjens, August 20, 1941 in Preston, Iowa; he died March 4, 1969. She later married Glenn Dosland, March 14, 1970 in Elvira, Iowa; he died in 1999.
Fern was a homemaker. She was a member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church and the Naomi Circle; she had also been a member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa.
Survivors include her children, Jim (Joanne) Tietjens of Clinton; Kathy Sander of Camanche; Jo (Jim) Wiese of Davenport and Deborah (Doug) Stream of Weslaco, TX; Step-son, Ole (Pat) Dosland of Kansas City, MO; nine grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Mommsen and Alberta Mommsen both of Clinton and several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and son, Kenny Tietjens; Step-son, Larry Dosland; four brothers and five sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton Humane Society or Camp Courageous.
