Fern S. Schilling's Obituary
Fern S. Schilling, 96, of Clinton passed away, Friday, October 31, 2025 at The Alverno in Clinton.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, November 6, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clinton. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the service time at the church. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery at a later date. Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is honored to serve the Schilling family.
On February 26,1929 Fern Sandra Obermiller was born in Chicago, Illinois to Mr. Edwin H. Obermiller and Ella A. (Westphal) Obermiller. Fern moved to Clinton, Iowa in 1947 with her parents
On June 7, 1952 she married her husband Wally S. Schilling.
Fern was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
Fern enjoyed writing letters to families/friends, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, word search, board games (Trouble & Password), and watching her favorite soap opera Young and the Restless. For those of you who know her know that she loved Cats.
Fern worked at Collis company from 1947-1952. After working at Collis, Fern was a homemaker. She volunteered in multiple organizations; American Heart/Lung Association and enjoyed taking tickets at the gate for the Clinton Lumberkings games.
Her love for her immediate family and extended family was unconditional. Fern loved spending time with her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and great grandson. Fern had a beautiful smile and a kind heart. She always put everyone first.
Fern is survived by her husband Wally S. Schilling, Son Wally C. Schilling (Terri) of Camanche, Iowa; Daughter Gail (Brian) Cogil of Gretna, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren; Ashley (Austin) Anderson, Nathan Schilling, Austin (Meagan) Cogil, Samuel Schilling, and Claire Schilling and 1 great grandson Bentley Knutson; sister-in-law Selma Schilling of Bettendorf, Iowa.
She is preceded in death by her son, Glenn C. Schilling; daughter, Dawn C. Schilling; sister, Yvonne E. Baughman; brother, Glenn C. Obermiller, her parents Edwin H. & Ella A. Obermiller; and her stepfather, William C. Larsen.
