Evelyn Burken's Obituary
Evelyn Burken, 98, of Battle Creek, MI, a former 51 year Clinton resident, died October 1, 2009, in Battle Creek, MI, Hospice. Evelyn was born October 23, 1910, in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Mary Ann (Barrett) and David Rea. She married Cletus O. Burken in August 1935 in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death in 1976. She moved to Battle Creek in 1993. She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and a former member of Clinton St. Mary’s Church. She is survived by her daughter, Judith of Battle Creek; niece, Patricia Rea of Dallas City, IL; a great nephew, James Moraniec of Burlington, IA; a nephew, Robert Burken and his family of Clinton; several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, a sister and a niece. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 4 to 7:00 p.m., at Schmitz Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, celebrated by The Rev. Tom Hennen. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, please consider Mass contributions to St. Jerome Church or the Northpointe Woods Resident Scholarship Program both in Battle Creek, MI.
