Ethel Mae Hamdorf's Obituary
Ethel Mae Hamdorf, 95, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away, Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Alverno. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 14, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, Clinton. The services will be followed by social time with the family. Ethel was born September 20, 1920 in Wheatland, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Ida (Dierks) Guenther. Ethel married Donald Henry Hamdorf October 3, 1942; he died January 28, 2012. She received her nursing degree from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa.
Ethel was employed as a registered nurse, serving the Clinton area for many years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was active with the YWCA, the Clinton Women’s Club and the Clinton Historical Society. She was also selected as the Women of the Year.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Kent (Sarah) Hamdorf of The Villages, Florida and granddaughter, Jennifer (Chris) Torrens and great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Annabelle; granddaughter, Anne (Clintt) Cobb and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Reese; and granddaughter, Leslie (Elsworth) Joseph and great-grandchildren, Isejah and Sabali; son, Jon Hamdorf of Mystic, Connecticut and son, Barry (Barbara) Hamdorf of Carmel, Indiana.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, the Clinton Women’s Club or the Clinton Historical Society.
