Mike and family
I am so sorry for your loss I could not make visitation but I wanted you to know how much I thought of your Dad. From both our high school days and seeing him at Eagles at least twice a week he was one of the most kind, friendly, and generous with a smile men I have ever known. Even though I have not seen him for many years I still can picture that smile and happy disposition. I believe Mike inherited his great witt from his Dad. And I would be remiss to not mention how sweet and kind your mother was to me also. I did not see her as often but her smile remains in my memory. So please give her my condolences and tell her how lucky I was to have known them both.Mike I have not seen you in many years but your humor and kindness have stayed with me through all these years and I cherish the days of our youth. John,
Don't know if you remember me but I guess I'm your second cousin. We did birthing classes together in the 80's. I was pretty young the last time I saw your dad. If I remember correctly my mother (Leota Stenzel Smith) called him Junior. Can remember visiting your grandparents and aunt in clinton and your dad coming over to join us. My grandparents were Maurius and Blanche Stenzel. Those eastern Iowa visits were a big part of my life. Just thought I'd let you know that I was thinking of you and your family at this time.

John and Peg,
I offer my heartfelt condolences, and pray for God's blessings upon you and your family at this time of your loss. It was truly an honor to have met your father, a true American Hero of Red One. Since I can't be there to help conduct his military rights, I will do this in his memory. I will go to the farm, and fire the volley with my M1 rifle, and offer my salute: Scouts Out, Sir! Job well done.

Peace and blessings to the entire family. Ernie will be greatly missed by his friends at Gloria Dei in Iowa City. Rest eternal grant him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.
Pastor Rob Dotzel, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church
