I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I do know from the stories I've heard about her that she knew she was loved and cared for by her family and that your memories of being with her will be cherished forever. I first met Betty in 7th grade at Washington Junior High School. With our last names starting with the same initial "S", we were seated alphabetically near each other in classes. We became good friends, a friendship that lasted thru the years.
When Betty met Joe Monahan and he asked her for a date, she called me to see if I would take her baby-sitting job for her, because she was excited about going out with Joe, which I did.
That first date led into a happy marriage and a loving and caring family.

I will remember visiting Betty at meal time at the Alverno. She liked to start with her dessert first. I would ask,"Betty, are you going to eat your dessert first?" She would always reply, "Why not!" Her other favorite observation was, "You see him over there. He used to be important, now he's just old." Betty, you were never old; you were timeless. You will be missed.
Aunt Betty I will miss our visit lots. I will always remember your famous words "eat dessert first". Thanks for all the fun times. Love You!
Aunt Betty You are the end of a great Shanahan generation. Our generation will never be able to fill your shoes. You have filled us with lots of great memories and we will remember many of your favorite sayings. You will be missed and loved forever.
