Elizabeth Hamstra's Obituary
Elizabeth Johanna Hamstra, age 92, of Clinton, Iowa, died Friday, November 23, 2007 at the Alverno.
Funeral Services will be, 10:00am, Tuesday, November 27 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Elizabeth was born on June 28, 1915, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Marna (Jensen) Olsen. Elizabeth graduated from Clinton High School in 1933. She graduated from Jane Lamb Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1937, did hospital nursing in Waterloo, Waukegan, IL and Morrison, IL. She worked as a school nurse for the Clinton Community Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1977.
She married Alvin Hamstra on June 25, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa, he later died December 10, 1999. She was a lifetime member of St. Stephen?s Lutheran Church. She was active in the American Red Cross and on the Board of Directors of the Benevolent Society. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and especially spending time with her family at her cottage in Northern Wisconsin.
She will be missed by her two sons, Alan (Vicki) of Middleton, WI and Paul (Betty) Hamstra of Clinton, her daughter-in-law Linda Hamstra of Pasadena,MD, seven grandchildren Carl (Lisa), Jeff (Karen), Mike (Emily), John, Scott, Nic and Angela and four great-granddaughters, Lacey, Valyn, Mya, and Chloe. She also leaves a sister-in-law Myra Waters, brother-in-law John Hamstra and several nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Alvin, and her son David.
Memorials may be made to the Benevolent Society.
