Tough to write anything more meaningful than that which has been shared by students and a long-time colleague of Mrs. Zimmerman's. Yet, it was funny when my brother and I were talking about her passing that we both use her last name as the answer to some security question for a credit card that asks "favorite teacher's name".

There were many from whom to select, likely. Still, we chose the one that probably had the most letters so it must have really been clear not only to me but separately to my brother as well. That's one security question we won't be changing.

I regret not having shared our appreciation with her before now.

Mrs. Zimmerman was my third grade teacher in 1986-87. It was my first year in public schools and could have been a difficult transition, but Betty made it a breeze. She instilled a love of reading in me that has stayed with me and introduced me and my family to Stan Reeves, who remained a family friend until he passed. She was warm, sweet, patient and loving and remained supportive of me through the years. She attended my high school plays and always greeted me with a big hug. I’m attaching a photo of us from my high school graduation and her inscription on the card she gave me. When I left Clinton for college and later after I married, Betty and I stayed in touch via Christmas cards. She would always write the sweetest note telling of her travels and commenting on my family. I treasure my memories of her and wish for her family to know she had a profound impact on my life. My heart is sad that I won’t receive a card with her gorgeous handwriting next Christmas, but it is full of all her wonderful attributes that I strive to emulate. Betty was one of my favorite teachers. I thought having a tee pee in the classroom was awesome. I can still remember how I looked forward to her reading the Little House on The Prairie books to the class. To this day, I am an avid reader. We were fortunate to have had her as our teacher.

Sympathy to Betty's family! I worked with Betty at Elijah Buell encouraging third graders to find books they enjoyed. Betty's teaching skills were a strong influence on her students which they carried out of school into their life time!
