Eleanor R. Stimson's Obituary
Eleanor R. Stimson, 93, of Clinton passed away peacefully Thursday, April 18, 2018 at The Alverno – Clinton.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Monday, April 23, 2018 at the First Baptist Church - Clinton. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery – Camanche. Serving as pallbearers will be Kirk Stimson, Scott Stimson, David Yoder, Daryl Yoder, Nicholas Simson and Matthew Yoder. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Eleanor Rosalie Powers was born November 20, 1924 in Malvern, Iowa, the daughter of Karl and Eunice (Largent) Powers. She attended Glenwood High School in Glenwood, Iowa and Ottawa College in Kansas. She married David P. Stimson on June 7, 1949 in Glenwood; he preceded her in death on November 21, 2010. She taught school in Overland Park, Kansas for three years then she and her husband served as Baptist Missionaries in Burma from 1953 to 1965.
Eleanor was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clinton and was the church organist for over 40 years at all the different churches that her husband served during his career as a pastor. She enjoyed growing flowers, reading, walking and baking pies. She was always willing to help her friends and family.
She is survived by her five children: Wade (Patricia) Stimson of Rohnert Park, California, Scott (Ronda) Stimson of San Antonio, Texas, Wendy (Daryl) Yoder of Camanche, Iowa, Kirk (Chery) Stimson of Kalona, Iowa and Kerry (David) Yoder of Iowa City, Iowa; five grandchildren: Matthew (Heather) Yoder, Amanda Stimson, Elizabeth (Jared) Smith, Nicholas Stimson and Sierra Yoder; and two great grandchildren: Joy and Brandon.
In addition to her husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or Friends of Burma.
