Eileen McElhinney's Obituary
Eileen McElhinney, 96, of Morrison, died peacefully, Wednesday, April 22, 2015 with her family by her side.
Private Family Graveside Services will be held. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting her obituary at www.snellzornig.com.
Dorothy Eileen Wilson was born on June 30, 1918 in Morning Sun, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Marvel (Kerr) Wilson. She was a 1935 graduate of Morning Sun High School. She also graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College. She married Robert E. McElhinney on March 11, 1939 in Morning Sun; he died July 11, 2007.
Eileen was a teacher in Morning Sun until moving to Clinton in 1965. She taught in Clinton at the elementary level until retiring in 1983.
Eileen enjoyed quilting. She received many ribbons from the Whiteside County fair. She was a 4H leader and was an avid sports fan, especially college basketball. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Eileen is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann (Don) Lambert of Camanche, Iowa and Janie (Ron) Billings of Sterling, Illinois; one son: Robert (Kerrie) McElhinney of Rockford, Illinois; five grandchildren: Wade (Megan) Baxter, Stacy (Gale) Verdick, Trisha Baxter, Amy E. McElhinney, and Christopher (Sherry) McElhinney four step-grandchildren: Shawn (Kim) Lambert, Scott (Susan) Lambert, Alan Duschen, and Loren (Carla) Duschen, 10 great-grandchildren: Megan Jenkins, Sara M. Verdick, Jessica E. Verdick, Dante W. Harrington, Marcus W. Harrington, Jenna N. Verdick, Olivia C. Young, Cody McElhinney, Adrianna Baxter, and Briggs Baxter, and 13 step great-grandchildren, and 3 step great-great grandchildren one sister: Lois (Gene) Hamilton of Wapello, Iowa, and her sister-in-law: Evelyn McElhinney of Morning Sun, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers.
Memorials can be made to the Riverbend Food Pantry or Unity Hospice.
