Earl Mike Johannsen's Obituary
Earl A. “Mike” Johannsen, 92, of Clinton entered eternal life on Thursday, August 9, 2018 in Clinton, Iowa.
He was born on November 8, 1925 to Albert and Anna Louise Ipsen Johannsen in Clinton.
Mike attended Clinton High School.
He married, Mary Margaret Matz, on November 21, 1950. He was an associate of the Order of St. Francis.
He worked as a foreman and lab technician for DuPont, retiring after 38 years.
As a young man, Mike coached and mentored many young people. He took an active role in the Interfaith Interracial Council because he valued social justice and civil rights. As a player in the Clinton Community Theater, he revealed his dramatic and creative enthusiasm. Mike worked in radio producing the Big Band Shows. In retirement, he offered his time and talents to teach Fun with Science.
Mike is survived by his wife Mary, children Michael (Sue) Johannsen, Mary Christine (Gary) Stuedemann, and Anne Marie (Dwight) Oxley, grandchildren Ben and Matt Johannsen, Alicia and Michael Stuedemann, Willie Oxley, great-grandchild Madison Stuedemann, and brother Ray (Maxine) Johannsen. Mike loved and was proud of his entire family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jimmy, and infant son Paul.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 14 at 10:00 at Prince of Peace.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 14 at 11:00 at Prince of Peace with the Fr. Stack officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, Clinton.
Pallbearers will be Ben Johannsen, Matt Johannsen, Alicia Stuedemann, Michael Stuedemann, and Willie Oxley.
