I can say with pride and love that Dr Joe Monahan is one of my heroes. I worked with him in the 90s at Vinton Family Medical Clinic. He was definitely one of a kind and always reminded me of the main character on the TV series, House, Dr Gregory House. Joe was very smart, told it like it was, had such a dry wit, and sometimes could seem "aloof", but underneath his straight forward attitude, was a wonderful, caring, empathetic, teddy bear.
He also was my father's physician during dad's long health battles. After Joe moved back to Clinton, I hadn't been in contact with him in awhile and out of the blue, in fact on the very night my dad died, Joe sent me an email late at night, that I will never forget. It was as an email asking me about my dad, "I can't help but think of your dad tonight. I hope all is well".
I took that and still take that as a message from Dad that all was well. For some reason Dr Joe was the messenger to let me know that Dad was at rest with God.
I truly love him and now it is my turn to wish him well. I know with certainty, Joe is also in heaven with all his loved ones. The world has lost a wonderful wonderful man. And yes, I have to say I agree with all the other commenters here on this tribute wall, he was so very very proud of his daughter Kelly. When he came to Vinton, he was a single father of a 2 year old little girl and he did a wonderful job raising her.
Dr Joe Monahan was a person who helped a lot of people in his life time and he is gone way too soon. Rest in Peace, my friend.
