Dorothy J. Rayburn's Obituary
Dorothy J. Rayburn, 95, of DeWitt formerly of Clinton, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at West Wing Place Nursing Home in DeWitt.
There will be no services for Dorothy. The Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Dorothy June Roll was born August 27, 1921 in Choteau, Montana, the daughter of Charles and Evelyn (Dannatt) Roll. She married Claude Rayburn on February 14, 1941 in Escondido, California; he preceded her in death on April 25, 1983.
She was a 1939 graduate of DeWitt High School, she attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa for 2 years. She graduated with a teacher’s degree and a Bachelors in Arts degree from the State teachers College in Valley City, North Dakota.
Dorothy worked as a school teacher and taught in Napoleon, North Dakota and Camanche, Iowa; she retired from teaching in 1987.
She is survived by two daughters: Claudia (Robert) Barbieri of Nevato, California and Linda Rayburn of Clinton; one son: Gregg Rayburn of Bettendorf, Iowa; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters: Frances Taylor of Adams Center, New York, Betty Newgard of Mandan, North Dakota and Joyce Barton of Bozeman, Montana; one brother: Kenneth (Lois) Roll of DeWitt, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
