Dorothy V. King, 88, of Clinton, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30am, Monday, March 2, 2009 at Prince of Peace Parish St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Jackson Kevin King, Jason Simmons, John McFadden, Bill Conner, and Travis Martin. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Dorothy Jackson was born on October 30, 1920 in Clinton, Iowa, the fifth child of nine born to Arthur and Adelta (Koons) Jackson. She attended Clinton schools and graduated from Clinton High School in 1938. Dorothy married Bernard J. King on March 9, 1940; he died on January 9, 2008. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Clinton Garment Factory and the Burpee Seed Company. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed holidays, bowling, picnics, vacation trips, and bingo. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Prince of Peace Parish. Dorothy is survived by one daughter: Renee Simmons of Bloomington, Illinois, two sons: Terrance (Sandra) King of Clinton, Iowa, and James (Joyce) King of Davenport, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Margaret Melchiorri and Joyce Brown both of Clinton; two brothers: James Jackson of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Gary (Donna) Jackson of Camanche, Iowa. In addition to her husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother, a granddaughter, and her son-in-law. The family requests that memorials be made to the University of Iowa Ophthalmology Department or the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
