Dorothea H. Muhs' Obituary
Dorothea H. Muhs, 100, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Aegis of Issaquah, Issaquah, Washington.
Dorothea Husmann Muhs was born in Whiteside County, Illinois on May 16, 1922. Daughter of Grace (Dornbush) and Harry Husmann, she grew up on a farm during the Depression years. She worked for room and board to put herself through Erie High School and then earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Education from Mount St. Claire College in Clinton, Iowa. She met and married Robert Muhs of Camanche, Iowa at the beginning of WWII and taught at Cedar Creek country school while he served overseas in the Army Air Corps. Robert’s post-war electronics engineering career assignments took them to several states over the years. The couple retired in Camanche, Iowa where they enjoyed their view of the Mississippi River. Following Robert’s death in 2009, Dorothea moved to the Seattle, Washington area.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Husmann, and her sister Elizabeth Subcleff. She is survived by her three children: Daniel Muhs (Tracy Rowland) of Boulder, Colorado, Laurie Chaker (Amar) of Vienna, Virginia, and Janine McKorkle (Scott) of Sammamish, Washington; and by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Dorothea Husmann Muhs will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Noon at the Camanche Community Center, 323 9th Ave, Camanche, Iowa
Because Dorothea loved birds, memorials to the National Audubon Society in her name would be welcome.
A celebration of life will be held in May in Illinois and Iowa.
