Donald J. McDermott, 88, of Clinton, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Alverno Nursing Home, Clinton. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30am, Monday, August 4, 2008 at Prince of Peace Parish Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00-8:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory with a vigil service at 3:00pm Donald Joseph McDermott was born on March 31, 1920 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Patrick and Mabel (Ryner) McDermott. He married Mary Bernadine Donahue on January 25, 1943 in DeWitt, Iowa. Donald was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. Donald was employed in the charting office at DuPont for 35 years, retiring in 1981. Donald was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Edwards Council where he was a 4th Degree and pallbearer, a member of the Clinton Moose Club, a member of the Good Sam Camping club. Don enjoyed dancing and camping. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 65 years: Mary Bernadine “Bernie” McDermott of Clinton; one daughter Kathleen “Kathy” Wilson of Camanche; one son: Gary (Cindy Mootz) McDermott of Clinton; three grandchildren; Shawn McDermott of Clinton, Angela Wilson of Clinton, and Brian (Renee) Wilson of Clinton; two great-grandchildren: Michael McDermott of Tucson, Arizona, and Robert Wilson of Clinton. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or for Masses
