Donald McClimon's Obituary
Donald E. McClimon, 87, of Clinton, died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at his home in Clinton. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30am, Monday, March 2, 2009 at Prince of Peace Parish Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post#28. Serving as pallbearers will be members of the St. Edward’s Council #707. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Donald E. McClimon was born on October 13, 1921 on a farm in Villanova, Iowa near DeWitt the son of Jay and Kate (Dunlavy) McClimon. He married Jessie Mae Ross on August 19, 1944 in Clinton, Iowa, she later died on March 7, 1993. Donald was a 1939 graduate of Elvira High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1945-1946. Donald was a salesman with Clinton Auto Parts from 1949 until retiring in 1983. He was also employed with Climax Engines from 1946-1947 and M&S Bottling from 1947-1948. Donald was a member of St. Mary’s, Prince of Peace Parish, a member and Past Grand Knight of St. Edward’s Council #707 Knights of Columbus, a 4th Degree member of Loras Assembly #260, a member of Clinton AMVETS Post#28. He was avid golfer and long standing member of Valley Oaks Country Club. He competed in many tournaments in Clinton and the Quad City area. Donald is survived by two sons: Donald (Barbara) McClimon of Chantilly, Virginia, James (Barbara) McClimon of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, one daughter: Judy (Robert) Wulf of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 5 granddaughters, and 5 great-granddaughters, two sisters: Kay (Paul) Kuchenbuch of Richland, Michigan, and Eileen (Steffan) Poth of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
In addition to his wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents, one son: David Joseph McClimon, and four brothers: Joe, Phil, Leonard, and Harold McClimon. Memorials can be made to Mercy Hospice.
