Dear Ethel,
Suellen and I are six weeks into escaping the winter. Her brother was in high school with Jon. He knew of our affection for Don and called to tell us of his passing.
I have some great memories of Don: my first 100 mph ride in a Lincoln Baja Special, and who could forget the Falls Flyer! Even better were the visits we had at HyVee. We always enjoyed sharing our travel stories and the tales of the lives of your boys.
Suellen and I wish we could be there today. Please know that we are with you in spirit. We have always appreciated your kindness and openness with us. Say hello to the boys for me. Take care of each other. You all have our deepest sympathy.
Love,
Richard and Suellen
My prayers go out to Don's family, especially Ethel. They were the best landlords! I enjoyed my chats with Don when he was supposed to be working out in the yard!
We had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hamdorf at Chris and Jen's wedding.
We realized then that we were going to be blessed with the union of two fine families. We have heard much about Mr. Hamdorf through family and know that a person of his outreach and goodwill will be sorely missed in the community as well as among his loved ones. Our deepest sympathy goes out to all who knew Donald as a friend or a family member. Special blessings on Kent, as we share the status of grandparenting
two great little ones with him!

Don was a great guy who touched many lives; we are out of town but our thoughts and prayers are with you
The kids and I send out prayers that all those traveling arrive to Iowa safely in order to honor and pay respect to Mr Hamdorf. While I did not know my wife's grandfather very well, I understand he was a hardworking man that was independent and strong. Furthermore, I have learned he was a good and decent man. I know Jen and Maxwell very much enjoyed their visit to Iowa in the summer past to visit with Don and Ethel. May he rest in peace.
