Donald "Dick" Richard Sykes' Obituary
Donald Richard “Dick” Sykes, 88, of Clinton, passed away, Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Mercy Living Center North, Clinton. Memorial services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the First United Presbyterian Church, where a lunch will follow. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM until the service hour at the Church. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dick was born June 28, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of John and Susan (Birely) Sykes. He was a 1946 Morrison High School graduate. Dick had worked on the family farm and then worked as a carpenter with his brothers.
He was a very active member of 1st United Presbyterian Church where he was a Deacon and took care of the building and grounds. He enjoyed working in his church, traveling to Mogasheen resort, gardening and his church family and friends.
He is survived by his sisters, Vivian (Milford) Place of Hayward, WI; Susan (Clayton) Cobb of Freemont, NE; Bonnie (Ted) Kuhnen of Prophetstown, IL; Donna (Leon) VanKampen of Morrison, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lela Haan and brothers, Kenneth, Robert, Ivan and William.
