Diane Kay Jackson was born on July 31, 1951 in Clinton, the daughter of Kenneth and Eleanor (Schmidt) Jackson. She was a devoted big sister to her brother, Kent. Her childhood was full of camping, spending time with her family, and loving the Beatles.
She was a 1969 graduate of Clinton High School and later received her nursing training from Clinton Community College. She married the love of her life, Jerry Tiesman, on May 28, 1972 in Clinton after being inseparable high school sweethearts. Together they raised two loud, talkative children, Mark and Erin.
During her time as a registered nurse, she worked in senior care, home care, and hospice. After she retired, she cared for her mother, Eleanor, until her passing in 2018.
Jer and Di were devoted members of Zion Lutheran Church where they volunteered many hours to support their church family and the community. Together they enjoyed playing softball, traveling, going to Lumberking baseball games, and watching movies. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and spending it in the company of the people she loved most.
In her free time she enjoyed shopping, reading (a lifelong bookworm!), and cheering for the Cubs. She loved to laugh and shared her love of comedy with her daughter by letting her stay up past her bedtime to watch “Saturday Night Live” and late-night talk shows.
Her favorite thing of all was being a wife, mom, and grandmother.
Diane is survived by her husband: Jerry of Clinton; two children: Mark (Cara Larson) Tiesman of DeForest, Wisconsin; Erin (Andrew) Schroeder of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and two grandchildren: Aiden and Natalie. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother: Kent, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She also leaves behind a clown collection she can’t remember why she ever started.
Most importantly, she leaves her family with endless memories of being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Holden Cancer Center at the University of Iowa or the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
