David Maze, Sr.'s Obituary
David Maze, 90, of Camanche, passed away, Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Mercy Living Center – North.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00-10:00am at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. A devotional time will be from 10:15-10:45 at the funeral home followed by the graveside services and military honors at 11:00am at the Rose Hill Cemetery – Camanche.
David Allen Maze was born on May 13, 1924 in East Hickory, Pennsylvania, the son of Larry and Edna (Sartorti) Maze. He was a graduate of Hickory Township High School in 1942. In 1943, while serving as a young Marine Corp Private stationed as a guard in Washington DC, met the former Vivian Joyce Specht from Iowa working as a finger print specialist with the Federal Bureau Of Investigation (FBI) in Washington, DC. They married on May 19, 1944.
Due to World War II war effort, and just days following their wedding, David was transferred to the Pacific Theater serving in Guadalcanal and Okinawa, and participating in the ceremonies at the Surrender of Japanese Military Forces in the Area of Tsingtao, China. Upon David’s return to the United States in 1946, two years after their marriage, David and Vivian were reunited.
In 1947, they moved to Camanche where David found employment with EI DuPont, retiring in 1982. In his spare time he was a volunteer Camanche firefighter, a member of the Camanche Masonic Lodge, and worked for the City of Camanche, plowing snow in the winter and cutting weeds and clearing sewers in the summer. He was a member of the Camanche VFW and a Life Member of the 6th Marine Division.
David began his personal relationship with God at the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, in Camanche. Later he attended the Evangelical Free Church in Clinton before settling at the First Baptist Church in Camanche.
David is survived by his wife: Vivian of Camanche; three sons: David Maze, Jr of Camanche, Brian (Vicky) Maze of Thomson, Illinois, Dennis (Pam) Maze of Vista, California; one daughter: Luanne Hall of Waterford, Michigan, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; one sister: Dorothy Jackson of Endeaver, Pennsylvania.
David was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Robert, Leland, and James, and a son-in-law, Ron Hall.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Camanche VFW.
