A year or two ago I volunteered to be a visitor at the assisted living to visit with people who might want a friend for conversation and was introduced to Darlene. She ended up being the only one I came to visit after awhile and I tried to visit often and we became friends. We had visits about every week or other week or two or so and often talked of pets, travels, and many other interesting topics…sometimes while having chocolate malts I’d bring—her fav!—or watching jeopardy! She’d show me pictures of her family on the phone whom she loved dearly and I’d share pictures of my hamster which she’d hold up close and look at and always made sure to ask about first thing when I came in. I always enjoyed our visits very very much. I’m so sad to read this news but I know she had strong faith and is in heaven at peace. I will not be able to make the visitation/funeral but my prayers are with all who are close to her. —Siri Boateng
Very sorry , Darlene was our 4-H leader & Sunday School teacher back in Elvira. Sympathy to Ross, Renee, Reed & families.
I knew Darlene for three years and at that time she became a very special friend. I’d pick up her mail bring it to her room and then we would sit and talk and visit about the kinds of things that were happening around the world and about her life it was so good to talk with her. She was an extremely intelligent woman. She done so many things that were interesting for me to learn about. I will miss Darlene. I know that she loved the Lord and the Lord loved her and she is with him at this point however the people she left behind will miss her I think God for the gift of her life.

Reed, I wish to extend my sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I regret that I will not be back in Iowa in time to see you at the visitation. Be strong, my friend. Sincerely, Les Shields
